This month’s blog comes from EnergyNet’s Managing Director, Simon Gosling.
A very happy new year from all here at EnergyNet.
The team in London is already raring to go for our next 10 global energy and power summits, kick-starting with the Regional Energy Cooperation Summit in Abidjan.
Hot on its heels will be the East Africa Energy Infrastructure Summit and the AEF: Off The Grid Summit, both co-located in Uganda under the patronage of Her Excellency the Minister for Energy and Minerals, Minister Irene Muloni.
From my side, it was fantastic to be back in Washington D.C. at the end of last year putting together the agenda for 4th Powering Africa: Summit this February. Particularly exciting was the response from US intergovernmental agencies who are redoubling their efforts to invest in Africa and create partnerships to hasten the pace of energy development.
Damon, myself and Shiddika left emboldened with a clear message that the US is ‘Stronger Together’ with Africa, committed to generating vast levels of investment like never seen before.
Andy Herscowitz and the Power Africa team are again fully supportive of the Summit, and for the first time Ray Washburne – President Trump’s appointed CEO of OPIC – will contribute to the agenda to engage stakeholders from the continent.
The 4th Powering Africa: Summit returns to Washington, D.C. from 28th February – 2nd March 2018
Another strong partner of the Summit is USTDA, who’s delivering more development funding to a more diversified mix of energies including off grid, solar, wind and most notably gas projects.
It’s clearly an exciting time following what can only be described as a strained 18 months. This was reflected by the response from the private sector, perhaps starting to sense optimism in South Africa following the ANC elections as well as in Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, Senegal, Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire and Morocco.
Thank you for your continued support and should you wish to speak directly with me about how we can do more together, how EnergyNet can better serve your needs or just simply to have a catch up, please call me on + 44 7500 807 930.
I look forward to seeing you in DC this February and to a 2018 which sees an emboldened investor and a brighter Africa.
